Game Format and RulesΒ 

Hustle Basketball seeks to operate events at the highest level. To do so, fairness and enforcement of the rules is necessary. The rules listed below are meant to enhance the experience of everyone, and we say β€œthank you” in advance for following these guidelines.
  • All teams will be allowed a minimum of a three minute warm up
  • KHSAA rules for any non-specified rules
  • Only two coaches are permitted on each bench and one scorekeeper. Only one coach is permitted to stand or communicate with officials.
  • Scoreboard:
    • Team wearing lightest colored jersey will be represented as the home team on the scoreboard
    • Team wearing the darker jersey will be represented as the away team on the scoreboard
  • Game Duration:
    • 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Grade: Two 16-minute halves. Clock stops during the final two minutes of the game.
    • 5th Grade and Up: Two 18-minute halves. Clock stops during the final two minutes of the game. Halftime will be three minutes.
  • Timeouts: Two full timeouts and two 30-second timeouts per game. Unused timeouts do not carry over to overtime.
  • Defense:
    • 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Grade: Pressing is allowed during the final four minutes of the second half only.
    • 5th Grade and Up: Pressing is allowed throughout the game.
  • Foul Rules:
    • Players foul out at 5 personal fouls. Bonus rules are applied as standard.
    • Teams will shoot double bonus at 8 fouls per halftime.
  • Running Clock:Β Applied when a team leads by 20+ points in the second half.
  • First Overtime: 2-minute stop-and-go periods with one full timeout each. A 2nd Overtime will result in sudden death play. Each team receives one timeout each overtime period.
  • Mercy Rule: If a team is ahead by 20 points with 2 minutes remaining, the game will end immediately.
  • Basketball Size:
    • Women and Boys (up to Grade 5): 28.5 size.
    • Boys (Grades 6-8): 29.5 size.
    • Boys (Grades 9-12): 29.5 size.

Admission Prices

  • $10 for one-day tournament events
  • $20 for single day admission two-day tournament events
  • $35 for an all-tournament weekend pass (Saturday and Sunday)
  • Each team is permitted to have two approved coaches passes.
    • Coaches must check-in to the coaches table, they can not walk past the coaches table before checking in.Β 
    • The coaches table will be located directly next to the admission table. If a coach can not find the table they must ask the admission employee for assistance and can not walk past the admission table without checking-in.Β
